Hyde Park shops act after robbery

2015-03-20 09:48

Johannesburg - Stores in the upmarket Hyde Park Corner shopping centre are upping security following a robbery at a cellphone shop on Thursday that saw R1.5m worth of good stolen.

Four armed men held up staff at the Vodacom shop at around 14:30 on Thursday.

"They took cellphones worth R1.5m and then on their way out of the store they started shooting randomly, but no one was injured," Sapa quoted Lieutenant Kay Makhubela as saying.

An employee at stationary store Walton’s told Eyewitness News that they had already asked a security company to increase safety measures at the store.

Even though police said there were no injuries, ER24 tweeted that one person had been treated and transported to hospital.

The centre boasts top brand stores such as UK clothing label Burberry and luxury brand Montblanc.

No arrests have been made and have asked witnesses with any information to contact 10111.
