Cape Town - The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade (IFPYB) has called on government to create a ministry of youth affairs to co-ordinate the "presently disjointed efforts at youth development and provide a cohesive vision".
In a resolution adopted during its 25th annual conference at Emandleni-Matleng in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend, the brigade noted that youth development had not received the government attention it merited.
It resolved to "strive with even greater resolve to ensure that issues affecting the youth take their rightful place on the national and party agenda".
The IFPYB also resolved to make the fight against HIV/Aids a top priority.
This resolution stated the brigade would actively participate in all community projects that sought to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids, and care for those living with and affected by the disease, such as home-based care programmes.
It further called on members of the national executive council to participate in a public awareness exercise by being tested for HIV, and on the national government to breakout of its "syndrome of apathy, denial and inaction to lead a national crusade in the fight against HIV/Aids".
