Ilse Naude funeral at weekend

2012-01-02 14:15
Johannesburg - A funeral service for the late Ilse Naude will be held at the weekend, a family member said on Monday.

Ilse, the wife of Afrikaner theologian and anti-apartheid activist Beyers Naude, died at the age of 98 from a heart attack last Thursday.

Her son, Herman Naude, said the service would be held at the NG Gemeente Aasvoelkop in Northcliff, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

"It is the same church we held my father's service [in]," he said.

Ilse and Beyers were married for 64 years when Beyers died at the age of 89 in 2004.

President Jacob Zuma said Ilse was a pioneer in non-racialism.

He said she would be remembered as one of the stalwarts of the struggle both in South Africa and abroad.
