Insp Mathye - 25yrs service

Inspector Victor Nzama Mathye, 49, started as a student constable at the Jeppestown police station 25 years ago. He was shot dead in the robbers' hiding place near the Jeppe police station the past weekend.
After his training, he worked in crime prevention at the Soweto police station and he was moved to the Roodepoort dog unit where he worked with "passion and pride" for 21 years
Superintendent Mario Caroto of the West Rand dog unit described Mathye as a hero with a charming personality.
He received several commendations for exceptional service from the West Rand area commissioner.
He is survived by his two children, Neo and Terrence. His wife had passed away.
