Cape Town – The City of Cape Town is on high alert as an intense cold front is expected to make landfall on Friday.

The South African Weather Service expects the approaching cold front to affect the Western Cape and parts of the Northern Cape.

The weather service has issued a number of warnings of heavy rain, gale force winds, as well as snowfalls.

Flooding can also be expected in places over the Cape Metropole, Overberg, Cape Winelands and South-Western Cape District.

City of Cape Town spokesperson, Wilfred Schrevian Evan Solomons-Johannes, the city’s Disaster Risk Management Centre is prepared to offer assistance and relief to any residents if required.

“The City appeals to residents to ensure that they help to minimise the flood risk in their immediate area by raising the floor level of their home so that it is higher than the land outside; digging trenches around the house to divert water away from the home; and reporting blocked drains, intakes and illegal dumping,” he said.
