Baghdad - A commander of Iraq's elite police commandos escaped unhurt on Monday when a car bomb blew up next to his convoy in northern Baghdad, an interior ministry official said.
Fifteen minutes later, a second car bomb blew up in a street in the centre of the capital, killing four civilians and wounding two, the official told AFP.
In the first attack, General Rashid Flaih's convoy was attacked at about 09:45 in northern Baghdad, the official said, adding that a few bodyguards were hurt.
Two policemen who were part of the guard detail were wounded in the blast, according to hospital staff.
Meanwhile, a policeman was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Khalis, some 80 kilometres north of the capital, police said.
