Pretoria - A woman in Lynnwood Manor, Pretoria, was assaulted, robbed, raped and shot dead in her home on Tuesday afternoon, just a few houses away from where a three-year-old girl was shot in the back in a robbery on Saturday night.
Inspector Paul Ramaloko said an unknown number of men had entered the house at about 17:00.
The woman, who was in her early 40s, was assaulted, robbed of personal items including money and jewellery, then raped and shot in the upper body.
Ramaloko could not say for sure how the robbers had entered the premises.
Son arrived on the scene
Beeld heard that the domestic worker was having a shower at the time of the attack.
She had apparently heard screams, but had not paid any attention to them.
When the domestic worker walked into the house she found the woman lying naked on her back in the laundry.
Her head was covered in blood.
The domestic worker called the police.
Nick Dollman, Netcare 911 spokesperson, said the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Ramaloko said two suspects had been arrested near the house after the attack.
The one suspect had a firearm and the other was caught with some of the woman's jewellery in his possession.
The woman's son arrived on his scooter at his mother's home, at about 20:00 on Tuesday night.
He had not yet been informed of the attack.
"What's going on here? Is everything all right? Is my mom OK? Tell me, tell me?!" he wanted to know.
When a policeman told him that his mother had died, he burst into tears and cried in the policeman's arms.
Beeld heard that the woman's husband was in Cape Town. Her daughter had not yet been informed of her mother's death.
