Jackie Selebi in hospital for tests

2011-12-12 13:27

Pretoria - Disgraced former police chief Jackie Selebi has been taken from prison to Pretoria's Steve Biko Hospital to undergo tests, correctional services spokesperson Sibongile Khumalo confirmed on Monday.

"He is a sick man and, being sick, he must undergo tests," she said without divulging any further details.

Selebi entered Pretoria Central Prison last Monday to start a 15-year jail term.

He was found guilty of corruption for accepting money from convicted drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti and for giving Agliotti benefits such as showing him a British drug investigation report.

Selebi was president of Interpol at the time.

Selebi's appeal against his corruption conviction failed in the Supreme Court of Appeal on Friday, December 2.

Selebi watched the judgment on television at his home and collapsed when he heard the outcome, his attorney Wynanda Coetzee said at the time.

      Craig - 2011-12-12 15:28

Someone with half a brain please explain this to me.(maybe that brain donour below Phumezo ?) Clearly I am clueless. 1. He defrauded SA citizens out of millions when in office 2. He defrauded SA citizens out of millions when on trial 3. He defrauded SA citizens out of millions (17 mil to be exact) at his appeal... and now this is costing the tax payers millions again for his hospitalization??? Why not just give him one last IV and send him packing ? Or at the very least leave him to rot in jail to succumb to his 'disease' Why should this schlenter cost the tax payer another cent ? What makes this so much more reprehensible is the fact this maggot was the chief in charge of intepol !

      goyougoodthing - 2011-12-12 16:14

  • jody.beggs - 2011-12-12 13:33

Only the very best treatment for a convicted criminal in SA !

  • wesley.bischoff - 2011-12-12 13:39

Seems whenever these ANC/politicians are convicted and sent to jail... they develop Prison Fever.... Hmmm.... must be a new strain of cANCer

      wesley.bischoff - 2011-12-12 13:40

Lol the pharmacology of my statement doesn't even make sense, but oh well, you guys get the point :-)

      methedex - 2011-12-12 13:57

      wesley.bischoff - 2011-12-12 16:05

      Thanks @methedex :-)

  • Lulama - 2011-12-12 13:40

    whatever!

  • braamc - 2011-12-12 13:40

I hope you get so ill that you have to leave your bed permanently. Pathetic criminal!

      desertratbkf - 2011-12-12 14:55

No, this filthy vermin shouldnt die just yet. First let him become someone's B*TCH in a cell where he belongs!

  • Larry - 2011-12-12 13:40

I wonder if he has bought himself a set of Golf Clubs?

      Kala - 2011-12-12 15:09

He is waiting for Shabir to succumb to his terminal illness. Apparently Schaik has left his golf clubs to Jax in his will.

  • Phumezo - 2011-12-12 13:42

Selebi is an old man, a first time offender and furthermore he has done his time in jail for doing nothing when he was in Robbin Island! Why this constitution we are celebrating today not taking that time into consideration is mind boggling to me? Then again I am not suprised because we know exactly which interests it suppose to serve and promote! Another sad day in Africa where we wash our hand on one of our own!

      Hendrik - 2011-12-12 13:46

Being an old man should not be a "free ticket to be a criminal". Finish and Klaar.

      wesley.bischoff - 2011-12-12 13:47

That statement is the biggest load of steaming bullsh*t i have ever heard. Just because you were in the struggle and those NP guys put you in jail for whatever, 30 years ago... doesn't mean that any crime you commit in the present is nullified. (eg. Oh i served my time in jail during apartheid, so now i can steal, rape and lie without consequence...) Do you believe your own nonsense??

      David - 2011-12-12 13:48

He ws in jail on Robben Island for doing nothing? Now you saying we have to let him go free for corruption? Wow, If this is so, then many other comrades ex-Robben island or other jails are now free to commit crime and don't have to go to jail? Clearly an "African Solution?"... very stoopid!!

      Yar - 2011-12-12 13:49

@Phumezo If he is one of yours, then you belong in the cell next door. He is corrupt. Don't you understand what that means.

      Kaizer - 2011-12-12 14:06

Selebi is the embodiment of what you and your type is all about. Hoop hy vrek.

      Craig - 2011-12-12 14:14

LOL PhumeZo get off malema's computer and get back to shoveling his 20 cows poo poo up you clueless fart !

      desertratbkf - 2011-12-12 14:37

Phumezo - one again I will say it. Your pathetic posts are very entertaining! One more brain cell and you'd bark!!!! You have a terminal case of idiocy!

      desertratbkf - 2011-12-12 14:40

@Wesley - very well said. But you would more than one brain cell to understand what youre saying. This Phumezo creature, clearly wont understand.

      Flowingriver - 2011-12-12 15:07

WE NEED TO START A PETITION TO GET SELEBI OUT OF JAIL!

      Jason - 2011-12-12 15:12

Phumezo - Your comments should have read "Another sad day in Africa where we wash our hands off one of our own" It's surprised, and not suprised, lastly is supposed as to suppose, go back to school and learn something IDIOT!! Lastly this old man deserves to go to jail, do his time and play with bubba - well bubba will play with him.

      desertratbkf - 2011-12-12 15:33

@Flowingriver - I think we need to get a petition going to get YOU into jail. Another case of terminal idiocy!

      jruppersberg - 2011-12-12 15:33

HAHA! Another garden boy playing on his madam's PC.

      jan.calitz1 - 2011-12-12 16:01

It's a sad day when we have people like you with your crooked viewpoints in this country! Your type firmly believe you can murder, rob & rape in the name of "apartheid" which ended almost 18 years ago! You are a brainless idiot for submitting an argument so ridiculous!!

      Leonard - 2011-12-12 16:06

While he was on Robbin Island I was "forced" to put my life on hold for 2 years after completing school and spend it in the Defence Force in places such as Rhodesia and Mozambique. Does that mean I can now apply for outstanding payments or can I apply for the rank of a General. Sound LOGIC!

      Leon - 2011-12-12 16:13

@ Flowing river- Wow, I had to go to your fake profile to see what kind of person you are. I then saw the comment you made on News24 and one of them was how racist some white guy was. I then read the rest of your ignorant comments and I then realised that your not only a stupid retart but that you are propably the worst kind of racist there is and that is why you are not man enough to post under your real identity. Your Pathetic....

      desertratbkf - 2011-12-12 16:22

@Leon - did the same! Just another halfwit, like his single cellular brain, Comrade Phumezo! But I do find the two of them very entertaining. They're probably sitting in some government department, with a PC, being paid by taxpayers, posting unadulterated sh*t like they do!

      yummyhamster - 2011-12-12 16:39

ok so that means i can go rob a bank and defraud people out of millions and i should be let go because that will be my 1st offense as well .. AWESOME.. that will be my argument in court. The uneducated opinions and pathetic mentality of todays people is astonishing..

  • Chris - 2011-12-12 13:44

Arg... we all know this one SAPS, you paid the constable to leave the restroom window open?

  • Mike - 2011-12-12 13:45

  • Yar - 2011-12-12 13:47

Here is a good test:- If he is still breathing, send him back to prison.

      Kala - 2011-12-12 15:11

Yar - I think you should be a doctor in criminal cases. Nice one Lad!

      Yar - 2011-12-12 15:55

Hi Kala I will happily do it for free

  • Peter - 2011-12-12 13:48

Eish Perhaps he has the same illness that sheik has got. If he has, he will be playing golf soon. Comrade Zondi

  • logancyoung - 2011-12-12 14:10

Did anybody notice that as soon as these guys get sentenced they all of a sudden have these terminal illnesses that keep them out of prison? No this idiot's going to suck up medicine, time, and money that could be put to use on people who are actually sick...

  • Brent - 2011-12-12 14:18

come oooon! well i am not even a bit surprised, this justice system needs to be relooked at on these sort of cases (enough already)... might as well have let hime loose!

  • sandra.j.rennie - 2011-12-12 14:22

The Steve Biko Hospital ?????? Isn't that a little beneath for a top Interpol Crooked Cop ? What's wrong the Die Wilgers, Zuid Afrikaans and Little Company of Mary ?

  • Willie - 2011-12-12 14:43

What about drug pusher Agliotti. Selebi must pay the price and Agliotti should also In Agliottis case they should throw away the key and let him rot in jail. Our childrens lives are destroyed because of this thug!!!!

  • Peter - 2011-12-12 14:52

It was to be expected. Rotten comrade cadre, ANC connected. Just like the rest of them, all bloody criminals let loose on the tax paying public. Shame on all you ANC supporters.

  • Cameronl - 2011-12-12 14:59

aaah shame, I hope he's ok... what a chop, we all saw this conveniently timed "oh no im sick crap" coming. Its always amazing how these guys suddenly develop a sickness and have to go crawling to hospital holding their arm saying hey nurse i gotta bum knee. what an ass

  • Travis - 2011-12-12 15:07

"Justice" is just a meaningless word in SA. The rich and powerful literelly get away with daylight robbery.

  • kazlynn - 2011-12-12 15:07

He did the dead, now can't face the fact that he must sleep in jail. Wonder how long this will draw out for?? until we all forget about it, and he can go home and play golf>

  • Leon - 2011-12-12 15:38

I just dont understand this. How many people in prison has Aids or some other killer desease, but they all stay behind bars???? If you are released because of dreaded deseases, then half the prison should be empty.

  • jan.calitz1 - 2011-12-12 15:41

I firmly believe the prisoner is playing the Shaik game. Hope for the sake of justice it's not going to work!!

  • HermannH - 2011-12-12 16:08

My, my, he got his weekend pass quickly. Guess it still holds water - "who you know".

  • yummyhamster - 2011-12-12 16:34
