Jeffrey's Bay man held for murder

2011-10-21 14:49
Port Elizabeth - A Jeffrey's Bay man has been arrested for stabbing his girlfriend to death, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Police found the body of Goodness Nzimakwe, 19, at a house in the Ocean View suburb around 17:00 on Wednesday, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.

She had been stabbed several times in the upper body.

Swart said the 42-year-old boyfriend, who shared the house with her, went to his friends after the murder and told them he had killed someone.

"The man was carrying a blood-stained knife," she said.

"He left his friends and said he would hand himself over to the police, but never did."

Police started searching for him and arrested him at another home in the same suburb three hours later, Swart said.

The motive for the murder was not immediately known.

The man was expected to face a murder charge in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday.
