Johannesburg - Two suspected car thieves were arrested in Melrose after they attempted to steal a vehicle parked in front of Trafalgar Building, Johannesburg police said on Wednesday.
Captain Phillip Maganedisa said the two were driving in a blue Fiat Palio.
"The Palio (VRL 237 GP) had been reported a couple of times to the police for various crimes in Johannesburg north."
Maganedisa said the two suspects were spotted and arrested by the Melrose Birdhaven members of CAP (a community-based security company).
"They were handed to police and in their possession they had screwdrivers and cellphones."
He said it was not clear if they owned the phones.
They would be kept in custody while further investigations were conducted.
It was incorrectly reported earlier that the arrest was made by ADT when it was in fact the members of CAP security organisation who handed the suspects over to police.
