Johannesburg - The two men arrested for murdering two siblings in Northcliff, Johannesburg, were their friends, it was reported on Thursday.

This was according to a domestic worker who worked for siblings Gary Smith and Karen Buchanan, The Star reported.

Smith and Buchanan were murdered in their home in March 2008. They were bound, gagged, had their teeth pulled out and had darts thrown at them. Both were shot.

"When I was told the names of the people arrested I was shocked," the unnamed domestic worker told the newspaper.

"Those people were friends of the deceased and used to go to the house all the time."

She said the men arrested had been at the house the day after the murders, and had cried and offered their condolences.

According to her, one of them was arrested soon after the murders, but was released due to lack of evidence

The men, who are believed to have been arrested in Durban and Mbombela two weeks ago, were expected to apply for bail in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
