Joburg bus overturns - no injuries

2013-08-09 17:04

Johannesburg - Passengers of a Translux bus were unharmed when their bus overturned on the M1 north in Johannesburg on Friday, paramedics said.

"Amazingly all 13 people who were on the bus managed to escape unharmed," ER24 said.

"No one was found to have sustained anything physical which would require them to be in hospital."

Earlier, Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said 15 people were injured and taken to hospital.

Minnaar said officers at the scene made a mistake after they saw passengers being examined by emergency personnel for any injuries.

ER24 said the driver lost control of the bus as a result of the wet road.

The accident happened between the Empire Road and Jan Smuts Avenue off-ramp.

The bus spun around and came to rest facing in the opposite direction, precariously hanging over the roadside barrier on the bridge over Jan Smuts.
