Johannesburg - A male traditional healer has been arrested for raping a man, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the sangoma, 35, shared a shack with the alleged rape victim and another man on the outskirts of the city .

It was alleged the sangoma sneaked into the bed where the 24-year-old man was sleeping on Wednesday night.

"He took off his clothes and [got] into the bed. He grabbed, overpowered and raped him."

It was unclear where the third man was at the time of the alleged rape.

"The victim managed to escape after the suspect had finished and contacted the police," said Mbele.

Police arrested the sangoma at the shack a few hours later.

He would face a charge of rape when he appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.
