Johannesburg - Two men were arrested on Thursday for driving 170km/h on the Golden Highway near Lenasia South, Johannesburg metro police said.

"Two motorists, aged 34 and 24, were caught at 175km/h and 176km/h this morning," spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said.

The 34-year-old was in an Audi A3 and the other in a BMW 320i.

"Both are in custody in the Lenasia police station. The roads are more quiet and motorist should not take advantage of the empty roads by driving recklessly or driving at high speeds," he said.

The men would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of reckless or negligent driving.
