Johannesburg - An 18-year-old youth was killed in a motorbike accident in Roodekrans, Johannesburg on Thursday, Gauteng paramedics said.

The teenager drove into the driver's door of a car on CR Swart Drive, ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said in a statement.

"His bike was found in pieces, according to paramedics... Unfortunately the young man sustained severe traumatic injuries and was declared dead on the scene."

He had massive trauma to his head, chest and abdomen. The woman driver of the car was treated for shock and taken to a nearby hospital.

"The young man's father arrived on the scene as paramedics were declaring his body, but fortunately a trauma counsellor from the emergency services was on the scene to step in."
