Johannesburg - Paramedics were still on the scene at the Booysens train station in Johannesburg on Friday night where more than 100 people were injured.

Paramedics said when they arrived, they found a "mass casualty scene".

Netcare911 and ER24 paramedics confirmed at least 150 had been injured.

"Patients were found all over the scene, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

"Once the patients have been triaged and treated on scene, they will be transported to various hospitals for urgent medical treatment," said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

He said people were being treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

Meiring said, according to unconfirmed reports, two trains collided causing one of them to partially overturn.

The cause of the accident would be subject to a police investigation.

No fatalities have been reported.
