Pretoria - The trial of the man accused of
killing five joggers in Midrand was referred to the High Court on Friday.
The matter was set down for two weeks
starting on 18 February next year.
Sibusiso Langa, a mechanical engineer, was
allegedly drunk when he ploughed his Mercedes Benz ML500 into the group of
joggers on 23 October 2011.
The runners were preparing for the Soweto
Marathon. Four women and a man were killed. Another man was hospitalised with
critical injuries.
During Friday's appearance in the Pretoria
Magistrate's Court, the prosecution said Langa faced five counts of murder, one
of attempted murder and charges related to drunk driving.
He was granted R80 000 bail in October. As
part of his bail conditions, Langa, who is also a US citizen, had to surrender
both passports, and his driver's licence.
According to an affidavit handed to the
court during his bail application, Langa would not oppose the charges.
