Johannesburg - Two more witnesses are expected to testify in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday as the bail hearing of hip-hop star Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala enters its second day.

Investigating officer Inspector Mpho Matshidiso, community policing forum chairperson Mandla Gasa and his deputy Monti Mbatha gave testimony on Wednesday.

The court heard that the pair tested positive for morphine and cocaine when their urine samples were taken.

Tshabalala also had alcohol in his blood. A breathalyser showed his alcohol levels were 0.4 milligrams of alcohol per 1 000 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 0.24.

The pair were allegedly racing their Mini Coopers on Mdlalose Street, Soweto on Monday, March 8 when they crashed into a group of schoolboys, killing four and critically injuring two.

Hundreds protested outside

Scores of police officers were expected to keep the peace outside the court. On Wednesday, hundreds of schoolchildren - brandishing sticks, tree branches and ANC flags - protested outside the building, vowing to "destroy" the two if they were granted bail. The crowd promised to the return armed on Thursday.

"Tomorrow if the police attack students, we will come ready, armed with bricks and stones and anything... we are not afraid of them," Congress of SA Students' Kenneth Mbatha said.

"We will be attending school here. Jub Jub and his friend will suffer. It doesn't matter if his mother is a businesswoman, he will not get special treatment," he said to cheers.

The bail hearing was expected to be wrapped up by Thursday afternoon.

gghtssmop says... People are racialising and politicising crime, as if it happens to one community only, In the townships they are facing the same thing!! So once people try to racialise this thing, it will cause the other races to side with their races!! I hate people who politicise things that are not politics or racialise things that are not race related. Its a crime, its a crime. Someone mentioned that 6800whites were killed but more of that number of blacks have been killed due to crime related cases!! AYi people must just reason thus all!! That SA flag is our pride, its a symbol for moving away from oppression, its got nothing to do with emergency of crime in this country!! Read the article...
