Jub Jub trial delayed

2011-03-22 11:33

Johannesburg - The murder trial of musician Molemo Jub Jub Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala was delayed in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The trial, which has been characterised by late arrivals by either the accused or some court officials, was this time delayed by defence attorney Ike Motloung being late.

A 17-year-old witness was expected to continue testifying in camera after two other witnesses testified last week.

Nono Mabote and Maki Ndlovu testified that Maarohanye and Tshabalala were drag racing when their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of schoolchildren on Mdlalose Drive in Protea North on March 8, last year.

Four children were killed in the accident and two others suffered severe injuries that included brain damage.

Maarohanya and Tshabalala are also facing charges of attempted murder as well as reckless and negligent driving.

Why isnt the defence attorney charged for being in contempt and fined?

      DeonL - 2011-03-22 11:54

I agree, he should sit in jail for 6 hours, he won't be late again!

      rix.wallace - 2011-03-22 11:56

yip, agree, contempt of court... fine them, disbar, whatever it takes to stop the disregard for due legal process.

I thought that the Magistrate had warned all parties about these delay tactics? And so, lock up the defence attorney. Simple

  • alousav - 2011-03-22 12:16

This is one big circus. Wait for it..... it will be thrown out of court soon for some or other stupid reason. He will get away with murder!!! The norm in SA.

      Melly30 - 2011-03-22 12:21

If that is the case - I am sure the community will take matters in their own hands! He is DEAD to everyone and his Music!!!

  • Pencilgraffiti - 2011-03-22 12:22

Find it quite the ridiculous that our Criminal Court Magistrates allow this kind of behaviour... Nowhere in SA does anyone respect the law anymore, not the President, not the Ministers and not even this rubbish and their defence under the Magistrates nose. If he's late, let them defend themselves and penalise the attorney with R200 000 - Will he ever do it again..? NO.

  • JAY-SA - 2011-03-22 12:27

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS ! HOW CAN A MAGISTRATE BE SO ACCEPTING TO THIS BEHAVIOUR ??? HAVE THEY BEEN PAID TOO ???? IF I WOULD BE A PARENT OF THE KILLED KIDS I WOULD TAKE THIS MAGISTRATE TO COURT TOO !
