Durban - The father of the Durban teacher who was hijacked and then thrown off a bridge last weekend, says he is happy that two of the three suspects have been given stiff sentences.
Sibusiso Dlamini, 25, was handed a 40 year sentence for hijacking, robbery, kidnapping and attempted murder in the Durban Regional Court on Friday, while Wandile Nsibande, 20, was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for robbery and hijacking.
The third suspect, a teenager, would appear in court at a later date, while a fourth suspect was still at large.
"We’re happy with the sentences, but we expected all those who participated in this heinous act to receive the same sentence,” Jeewan Seevnarain told News24.
Harshness of prison
"I now know that they will now have to deal with the harshness of prison, which is what they deserve," he said.
He added however that they were happy that society had been rid of those who disregard the law.
“I always believed that justice would prevail.”
“This leads me to believe that those that control the law of the land are doing an exceptional job,” he added.
