KFC robbers arrested
Johannesburg - Two men were arrested for robbing a KFC outlet in Meyerton, Vereeniging police said on Saturday.
Constable Makgauta Serathi said the two men, aged 23 and 24, walked into the fastfood outlet at 19:30 on Friday and demanded money from staff at gunpoint.
"They took money from the tills and walked to the back of the store. Unfortunately for them, two police officers walked into the store shortly afterwards to buy food and they were alerted to the robbery," she said.
One of the police officers walked to the back of the store and arrested one of the robbers.
"He found him with a bag full of money but managed to arrest and confiscate the firearm he was holding with the other hand," she said.
On realising that police were inside the fastfood outlet, the second robber allegedly tried to escape through a window but the officers called for backup who arrested him outside the outlet.
The two men were arrested and charged with armed robbery.
"They could face an additional charge of posessing an unlicensed firearm should it be found that the gun used in the robbery is not licensed," Serathi said.
The two men are expected to appear in the Meyerton Magistrate's Court on Monday.
