KZN Sadtu condemns teacher killing

Johannesburg - The murder of a teacher, allegedly for
failing a pupil, was a shocking and heartless act, the SA Democratic Teachers'
Union (Sadtu) in KwaZulu-Natal said on Monday.
"We are deeply saddened and shocked at this callous
act. This shows how our teachers are vulnerable because of lack of
security," Sadtu said in a statement.
Police spokesperson Vincent Mdunge confirmed that Maureen
Lucky Khuzwayo, 52, was killed at a school in Maphumulo on Friday.
Sadtu claims Khuzwayo was murdered "execution
style" because she failed a pupil.
"The gunman, who is believed to be related to the
learner who failed, waited for all parents to leave, before he stormed into Mrs
Khuzwayo's office and pumped two bullets into her stomach while asking her why
did she fail that learner," Sadtu said.
"Eyewitnesses said the gunman walked away and
returned to shoot Mrs Khuzwayo in the head."
Sadtu called for the arrest of the killer and an
investigation. The union said some teachers had expressed reservations about
returning to the school before the suspect was brought to justice.
