Durban - A taxi driver was killed when his minibus collided with a heavy goods truck on the R614 near Wartburg in central KZN on Monday morning.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the driver died at the scene before paramedics were able to do anything for him.

He said the cause of the crash, which happened at approximately 07:00, was not yet clear.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the taxi with only the driver had slammed into the side of a truck. However, the exact details to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment,” he said.

“Netcare911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the driver still trapped in the wreckage of the taxi. Tragically he died at the scene due to extensive injuries that he sustained,” Botha said.

No one else was injured in the accident.
