KZN farm murder bail hearing on hold

2012-08-13 15:39

Johannesburg - The bail application of two men accused of killing a KwaZulu-Natal farmer was postponed on Monday by the Vryheid Magistrate's Court, police said.

"They briefly appeared and the case was just postponed. They remain in custody," Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Christian Smith, 43, and Andries Maviyezulu, 28, would be back in court on 15 August, said Zwane.

Gert Uys, 55, was shot dead in his farmhouse at Swart-Mfolozi on 31 July, while he prepared to pay his employees.

The attackers took R18 000 and a revolver.

They fled the scene in the farmer's Toyota Land Cruiser, which was later found abandoned on a gravel road.

Police, acting on a tip-off, arrested Smith and Maviyezulu on 1 August in Mpumalanga.

Two firearms were recovered during the arrest. The men face charges of murder and robbery.
