KZN man arrested for murder

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Joey Jeevan said on Friday that a man was arrested in connection with the death of a Pietermaritzburg policewoman who disappeared two weeks ago.

Jeevan said: "A 32-year-old man was arrested in Thornville, outside Pietermaritzburg, after we received a tip-off."

Constable Bongiwe Precious Zuma was last seen in Imbali on 22 May.

Her red Volkswagen Golf was later found abandoned at the side of the road in the Mason's Mill area.

Charred remains, believed to be hers, were found on Friday in bushes alongside a road in Thornville and a post mortem would be conducted, said Jeevan.

He said the man who was arrested would appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.

Police found a cellphone, possibly that of Zuma, when they arrested two men in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday.

The men were in possession of two stolen cellphones.

The other cellphone was stolen from a motorist in Pietermaritzburg on May 25.
