KZN man held for rape, murder

Durban - A man has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old girl, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the 25-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in the Jozini area, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The teenager was last seen on Thursday when she left home for school in the KwaGedleza area in Jozini.

"On Saturday, at about 23:00, her body was found in a forest with stab wounds."

Police preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased's underwear was tampered with, Mdunge said.

Education MEC Senzo Mchunu welcomed the arrest of the alleged rapist.

"We thank the police for the speed with which they arrested the suspect, and we are confident that the law will take its just course from now on.

"We don't have space for such people in our society," Mchunu said.
