2012-01-28 22:43

Johannesburg - A man in his 20s was critically injured when he was struck by a bakkie while trying to cross the N2 in Durban on Saturday, paramedics said.

The man was crossing the highway under Queen Nandi Drive bridge when he was hit by the bakkie, ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said.

"The man was flung several meters and was found lying on his side in the slow lane," she said.

The driver of the bakkie directed traffic while paramedics attended to the injured man and placed him on an external ventilator.

He was taken to the Addington Hospital in Durban.

When will they bloody learn not to cross over busy freeways...

Road sense in this country is lacking. I've nearly flattened quite a few people (both white and black), who insist that the middle of the road is the pedestrian lane, while turning a blind corner. Sooner or later somebody is going to be tramped and I'll get the blame. Roads are for cars. Sidewalks are for people. It's not that difficult.

If memory serves me correctly, was it not taught in school, that under no circumstances, should one cross a high/free-way......even if lacked in school should it not be common sense that the motor way is inherently dangerous to a pedestrian???

Too Dm lazy to to go over the Queen Nandi Bridge! I am sure there would be pedestrian lanes as part of that bridge!

'The driver of the bakkie directed traffic while paramedics attended to the injured man...' a real man. Most people in this country just carry on driving.
