Durban - A man died when he fell 70m down a cliff in Glendale, KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said on Friday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics and the police rescue team had to set up a specialised mountain rescue system to lower themselves down the side of the cliff after the man's fall on Thursday.

The man was trapped on the ledge and died of his injuries.

It was not known what caused the fall.

It took rescuers two hours to complete the operation.
