KZN missionary killing - three men appear

2012-03-19 18:44
Johannesburg - Three people accused of murdering a foreign missionary in KwaZulu-Natal appeared in the uBombo Magistrate's Court on Monday, police said.

Leonard Gina, 45, Sandile Ngwenya, 23, and Thokozani Mabika, 30, would be back in court on April 16 for their bail application, said Colonel Protas Mthembu.

He said the three men - who all knew Netherlands-born Riet Vuyk, 68 - are accused of robbery, kidnapping and murder.

Van Wyk's body was found at the bottom of a cliff in the uBombo mountains.

She had been beaten to death with a hammer on March 3.

Mthembu said police arrested the men after a witness saw Ngwenya driving Vuyk's car.

"All of them knew this lady. They were all from the area. The actual motive was to rob her. Just because they were known to her they then decided to kill her," he said.
