2012-09-14 21:00

Johannesburg - The three people killed in a light aircraft crash near Nagle Dam in KwaZulu-Natal were identified by Agri SA on Friday.

President of Agri SA Johannes Mller identified the victims as Jannie Boshoff, Jannie Kemp and Theuns van Rensburg who were all members of the KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union (Kwanalu) - an affiliate of Agri SA.

"They had attended the congress of Kwanalu. I spoke to them during the congress and their death is not only a loss for Kwanalu but also for Agri SA," said Mller.

They were killed on Thursday after their plane crashed in bushes and caught fire.

ER24 said the incident happened at around 17:30.

After arriving on the scene, three paramedics and a firefighter set out on foot to locate the aircraft, said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

"After about an hour of walking up the mountain through dense bush, they arrived at the crash site, where they found the wreckage of a light fixed wing aircraft, extensively damaged..."

It was still unclear what caused the crash.

The sad part is this could have been avoided. The tower and the sa airlink pilots asked them to wait for the thunder storm to pass by.

The tragery here is that two innocent people (the two passengers) lost thier lives when as gary.unmarried.7 states this accident COULD have been avoided, the pilot (I assume a "fair weather pilot") was cautioned by the Airlink (Instrumented Rated, ALTP rated pilot) as well as the Tower. As the saying goes, you get old pilots and you get get bold pilots, but you dont get old bold pilots.
