Durban – Protesting on the N2 in the Port Shepstone area has intensified, as thousands joined the protest, which is in its third day, according to the reports.

eNCA reported on Wednesday that more than 6 000 people blocked the main road between Port Shepstone and the Eastern Cape.

Protesters, who have been gathering since Sunday, are reportedly demanding access to running water, after it was cut due to road works.

eNCA said at least one person has been killed during the demonstration.

East Coast Radio said the road remained closed as residents burned tyres and debris.

The radio station reported that just after lunchtime Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu had arrived to address protesters.
