KZN taxi crash toll rises to 6
Durban - One of the nine people injured in an accident involving a minibus taxi in Mahlabathini, outside Ulundi has died in hospital, the provincial transport department said on Thursday.
“The number of people who died because of the accident has risen to six,” spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said.
Initially five people were killed and nine injured when the minibus taxi driver lost control of the vehicle on Wednesday. The injured were taken to Mahlabathini's Nkonjeni Hospital.
Transport MEC Willies Mchunu said it was every driver's responsibility to check the roadworthiness of their vehicles before a trip.
"I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. I hope that time and memories will help lessen the burden of your sorrow,” he said.
