Durban - A minibus taxi driver was gunned down at a Tongaat taxi rank, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

"Sthembiso Ngcobo was killed on Tuesday morning," Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Ngcobo had been waiting for passengers when a group of men shot him at least five times. It was not known how many men participated in the shooting.

Provincial transport department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said the shooting followed a dispute in the local Siqalakahle minibus taxi association.

The department had sent a delegation to talk with the group in a bid to resolve the dispute on Monday.
