Pietermaritzburg - A man who tried to start a relationship with a woman he raped, was one of three men found guilty of murder, robbery, rape, and kidnapping by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Friday.

Judge Jerome Mnguni convicted Pinetown men Nhlanhla Mkhize, 24, Nkosinathi Mkhize, 21, and Xolani Shozi, 22, of kidnapping and robbing two people of their cars and money.

They robbed one woman of R3 250 after forcing her to withdraw the money from an ATM.

Another kidnap victim was forced to transfer R600 to them before they stole her car.

Shozi was convicted of stealing a third car and murdering the owner.

The crimes were committed between Pinetown, Greytown and Stanger in June and July 2013.

Shozi, who raped a woman while his accomplices held her prisoner, was arrested when he called the victim at her work to pursue a romantic relationship.

She tipped off a policeman who arrested Shozi when she arranged to meet him.

Sentencing procedures will start on July 7.

A fourth suspect was still at large.
