KZN woman dies trying to rescue cat

Johannesburg - A woman was killed when she was hit by a car while trying to rescue an injured cat in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the woman, 48, was trying to move a cat, which had been run over, when she was hit by the vehicle at the intersection of Mayors Walk and Winston Road.

"Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the female lying unresponsive on the road surface; tragically she had died on impact due to the extensive injuries that she sustained," Botha said.

The cat also did not survive.
