Cape Town - Four men were arrested after being rescued from "kangaroo courts" during a police and army anti-crime exercise at Nyanga near Cape Town on Saturday night.
Captain André Traut said on Monday police first saved a man accused of being in possession of a stolen vehicle. His hands and feet were bound and it appeared the community were about to set him alight.
In another incident, three men were also saved from a "court" after they were allegedly caught stealing a car.
Traut said several illegal shebeens were closed down and six people arrested. Two firearms were also seized during the operation.
