Kerry Winter's ex gets life for her murder

Dubai - A Dubai court on Sunday sentenced a Briton charged with killing his South African ex-lover to life in prison, the lawyer for the victim's family told AFP on Sunday.

"The Dubai Court of Appeals sentenced Mark Arnold to life in prison which equals 25 years" in the United Arab Emirates, said Hussain al-Jaziri, the lawyer for relatives of Kerry Winter.

Jaziri said the Court of Appeals has overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance on June 7 in which Arnold, 42, was found guilty of first degree homicide and jailed for 15 years.

Winter's family "now want from Arnold to say where their daughter's body is", said Jaziri.

Winter, 36, disappeared in August 2008 following a quarrel with Arnold. Prosecutors charged him with clubbing her to death with a baseball bat and dumping her body in the sea with weights attached.

He was spared the death penalty because the body was never found.

Arnold has been in custody since August 2008 and also received a one-month jail sentence for endangering the life of a Lebanese housemate of Winter by swinging a baseball bat at him when he was alerted to the argument between the two outside her villa.

Arnold is a self-centred bully and deserves the death sentence. I hope they find the body, more for the family than anything else - but his execution would be a nice bonus. There are too many people like him in the world - just try driving at the speed limit in the fast lane on any highway in SA and you'll find some ego-maniacal bully tail-gating you within minutes. It's a sad reflection of society that bullies get ahead instead of being stomped on like the bugs they are.

The fast lane is for overtaking - not for driving in. Keep left amd let the other person pass. Where did you get your license, OK Bazaars? - 2010-12-20 10:18

agreed. How on earth do you relate this story to YOU being an inconsiderate driver who doesn't know the rules of the road!?

@ Alpahbrutus: How does it hurt you or damage you or inconvenience you to get out of the fast lane? Does letting through those who want to drive faster than you somehow damage your self-esteem and the way you live your life? I've been making way for the faster drivers through for 30-odd years now and so far it has not made my life any worse. I prefer to leave law enforcement and speed-trapping to the authorities. Why do just assume that every single person trucking along at 140 in the right hand lane of a 120-limit highway is a "bully"? Do you know them all personally? If you really want to teach the bullies a lesson, invite them to pull over to the side of the road with you so that you can teach them a proper lesson. No? Not prepared to go that far? Chicken? So, you'll just consider yourself an amazing hero of the downtrodden by teaching those "bullies" a lesson by blocking the fast lane. That's just so darn brave of you. You should be on some posters for that "Lead SA" thingy. The frustration you cause is more dangerous than the risk created by those people who want to drive faster. However, it may be that you are, in fact, actually in traffic law enforcement. If that's the case, then you will know that the correct, legal, way to deal with speeding drivers is NOT to cruise around blocking the fast lane. If you are so concerned with the safety of your fellow motorists, there are better, proper, ways of doing it. Blocking the fast lane does not improve safety or even make you a good person. It just makes you a sanctimonious fool who is actually going to end up causing an accident just to prove that you are right and legal.

Then you should driving in Dubai... Its CRAZY! Will go and throw some peanuts at Arnold.

We're getting a bit off the subject by talking about driving in the fast lane on a highway, but we should all know that we need to get into the left lane to allow people to overtake. The subject matter of this news item is the guilty verdict on Kelly Winters' murderer.I'm so glad the shorter sentence was overturned.Seems like Arnold is the kind of person that should be kept out of society permanently.I wonder if he will have the gumption to reveal Kelly's wherabouts.Probably not. He's an absolute sleaze ball.He needs God in his life to activate his conscience. Otherwise he will never have peace in his heart and mind. This is a high price to pay for keeping a secret.
