Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police have found the nurse who was kidnapped on her way home from work at the KwaDukuza Hospital, allegedly by striking public service workers, they said on Monday.
"The nurse was found at about 13:30. We have not been able to speak to her, but we know she is in good health," said Colonel Jay Naicker.
"At this stage we cannot say where she was found," he said, adding that the police would not release more information, including the nurse's name, for fear of jeopardising the case.
Naicker said the nurse had phoned the matron on duty at 06:30 on Monday.
"The nurse told the matron on duty that she was abducted and that her kidnappers will only release her once all nurses on duty (at) the hospital were removed from duty," he said.
When police tried to call her, the nurse's cellphone was on voicemail, he said.
The police's crime intelligence unit was working on the case.
Earlier, KwaZulu-Natal health department spokesperson Chris Maxon said the nurse was one of the people hired by the department to help during the strike.
"The department is shocked to hear such news happening to people who are committed to providing health (care) being victimised in this matter," he said, adding that he hoped the culprits would be found and placed behind bars.
