King's son bust speeding at 185km/h

2012-07-02 11:46

Durban - King Goodwill Zwelithini’s son, Prince Butholesizwe Prosper Zulu, 25, was caught travelling at 185km/h in a 120km/h zone along the N2 near Ballito on Sunday morning.

He was driving a Jaguar.

The prince was granted R2 500 bail and told to appear in the Umhlali Magistrate’s Court on Monday, according to Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu.

Zulu Royal Household spokesperson Prince Mbonisi Zulu told The Witness he knew nothing about the speeding incident.

“I haven’t heard anything from him or the queen.

“The Royal House is a big house. I cannot comment ...” he said, adding that it was a matter for the police to comment on.

The RTI told The Witness that the highest speed at which a motorist was caught travelling this weekend was 202km/h.

That was also in Ballito.

The motorist was driving a Mercedes-Benz and was also granted R2 500 bail.

      Bulls - 2012-07-02 12:01

If they are so uplifting the culture, then why the hell was he not caught speeding on a donkey or a horse? BLOODY SELECTIVE ROYAL TENDENCIES I TELL YOU.

  • Tony Lapson - 2012-07-02 12:13

If I have (or have not) been at (or near to) a speed that high (or low) in my (short) lifetime, does that mean that I am (or would be) also entitled to my own news article? On another note... DOWN WITH MONARCHS. Royalty is a load of rubbish. Just because ancestors loved and believed in a leader from the old times, does not mean that their offspring will not be a delinquent.

      sabongam - 2012-07-02 12:21

Well, Tony I assume that you're not British. However, do you think the same should also apply to the British Monarch. OWN WITH MONARCHS. What's your opinion on that?

      Günter - 2012-07-02 12:48

To sabongam,Tony is right, and yes the english, dutch, swede kings and queens are also a leftover of the old days, save the money and spend on development

      Tony-Lapson - 2012-07-02 13:40

All Monarchs Sabongam... All of em... every last remaining so-called "royal" from all countries...

      gungets.tuft - 2012-07-03 07:16

Except for Queen Rania of Jordan. She is clever, and she is also hot. I can live with those queens ...

The British monarchs are a bunch of Pricks too!!!

  • Provence - 2012-07-02 12:27

I guess he has immunity. How could the son of an African King be held responsible? It's those whites that created roads and fast cars and technology, if it weren't for them he would still be riding his donkey...,it's the white mans fault.

      chris.debeer1 - 2012-07-02 12:59

  • wisani.mathonsi1 - 2012-07-02 12:30

i Guess when the king wanted an increase he wanted to spoil his little brats.... Whats the role of kings anyway? They think that they are entitled to everything.

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-07-02 13:28

Bail set at how much??????? Isn't the amount supposed to reflect the likelhood of the accused disappearing AND the wealth of the individual. Sorry...I guess it also reflects the influence of the indivual and the balls of the justice system. Bronze age society isn't it?

  • grantdutoit - 2012-07-02 13:54

What's the president on speed fines? Gareth Cliff does 180km/p gets R10,000. Thuso Phala does 195km p/h gets R1 500. Metro FM's DJ Sbu does 264km p/h gets R7 000 and the king's kid gets R2500 for doing 185km/p. Without wanting to sound racist or prejudice towards anyone but it does seem, based on the facts above, that it may be the case. Is there no actual legal document that regulates this or are people simply at the mercy of some authority who may or may not have had a good day or put under the pressure of others? I'm not trying to justify the actions of any of the above people but rather trying to establish how this is regulated. Perhaps someone can clarify?

      gungets.tuft - 2012-07-03 07:22

      R2500 B-A-I-L .. not the fine.
