Johannesburg - Klerksdorp police foiled an apparent robbery at a filling station shop in the North West town, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday.
A stakeout by colleagues in the Hawks specialist unit on Tuesday afternoon paid off when five men arrived in a Toyota Corolla at around 20:30, Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi explained.
"The five suspects arrived unaware of the police's presence at the petrol filling station and at about 20:30 just before the suspects pounced into the kiosk, the police pounced on them," said Metsi.
The five aged between 22 and 35 years were arrested on charges of attempted business robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm.
They are due to appear in the town's magistrate's court on Thursday.
