Krejcir extradition hearing postponed

Johannesburg - An extradition hearing for convicted Czech
criminal Radovan Krejcir was postponed in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court
on Tuesday.
"The matter is postponed to 6 May for the applicable
documentation to reach the court. The bail has been set at R20 000,"
magistrate Kowie Schutte said.
Krejcir's lawyer Mike Hellens, said it would be a waste of
time to hear his client's extradition while his appeal to the Refugees Appeal
Board was pending.
Krejcir wants to remain in South Africa and is fighting
attempts by the National Prosecutions Authority to extradite him to his home
country, the Czech Republic, where he is facing an 11-year prison sentence.
The board refused to grant Krejcir refugee status last year.
He is appealing the decision.
The State and the defence agreed to postpone the matter
pending the board's decision.
Krejcir was sentenced in the Czech Republic last year after
being convicted in absentia of money-laundering.
