Kruger Park road still closed

Mbombela - The R538 motorway leading to the Kruger National Park remains closed on Wednesday following service delivery protests, Mpumalanga police said.

"The municipality is cleaning the rubble from the road, but a lot of work still needs to be done to ensure it is accessible to motorists," Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

Protesters were visible on Wednesday, but were not being disruptive or violent. They were standing around, he said.

"The situation is going back to normal."

On Tuesday, protesters barricaded the road from Masoyi to Hazyview. It had been dug up and littered with stones and burning tyres since protests started on Saturday. Cars had also been damaged.

Among the protesters' demands was access to water.
