Kruger Park road still closed

2012-02-15 11:51

Mbombela - The R538 motorway leading to the Kruger National Park remains closed on Wednesday following service delivery protests, Mpumalanga police said.

"The municipality is cleaning the rubble from the road, but a lot of work still needs to be done to ensure it is accessible to motorists," Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

Protesters were visible on Wednesday, but were not being disruptive or violent. They were standing around, he said.

"The situation is going back to normal."

On Tuesday, protesters barricaded the road from Masoyi to Hazyview. It had been dug up and littered with stones and burning tyres since protests started on Saturday. Cars had also been damaged.

Among the protesters' demands was access to water.

Although i can understand where the people are coming from the violent way in which they protested is still unaccepteable the protestors should be either made or help,to clean up the mess they made

They all services completely free of any costs without paying a single cent for any of the services they get such as refuse, roads etc. ANC election promises gone wrong.

They should have dug up more of the road and made it safer for us tourists. It is actually a whole bunch of potholes joined together with a bit of tar.
