LIMPOPO MAN HELD AFTER MURDER OVER CIGARETTE
JOHANNESBURG Dec 22
A man was arrested for killing his friend, apparently during an argument over a cigarette in Mankweng, Limpopo police said on Thursday.
The 21-year-old man was caught in Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon after a massive search, Constable Moses Molepo said.
He said the man allegedly stabbed Peter Chauke, 21, to death at a tavern in Mankweng on Saturday morning.
"The two friends were drinking together when the arrested man asked for a cigarette from Chauke," Molepo said.
"When Chauke said he had none, they started arguing. The man pulled out a knife and stabbed his friend twice in the chest before running away."
Chauke died at the Mankweng Hospital two days later.
The man was expected to face a murder charge in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Friday.
