Land claims settled soon

Johannesburg - All urban land claims should be settled by next March, Agriculture and Land Affairs Minister Thoko Didiza said in Uitenhague on Saturday.

"By March 2005 we must complete all claims and we are well on track to achieving this. It all revolves around fair bargaining," the SABC reported the minister as saying.

Didiza also said she hoped rural claims would be settled by the end of 2005 to avoid Zimbabwe-type land problems.

Didiza was speaking at the signing of a R100m agreement to compensate dispossessed Xaba-Langa residents who were forcibly removed from their land between 1966 and 1984.
