Johannesburg - Six people were arrested for speeding in Brakpan on Sunday morning, the Ekurhuleni metro police said.

"A 27-year-old driver in a Ford Fiesta claiming to be late for work was clocked at a terrifying 154km/h approaching the [N17 Dalpark Plaza] toll-gate." said spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.

He said another motorist, aged 33, who was also arrested when caught speeding in a Volkswagen Polo, also claimed to be late for work.

These two, and four others caught at the toll-gate, posted bail of R1 000 each at the Brakpan police station and would appear in court soon, said Kgasago.

He said the six, who were all caught going more than 120km/h in an 80km/h zone, faced charges of reckless and negligent driving.

Another 33 drivers were issued with spot summonses and two vehicles were declared unroadworthy during the metro police operation.
