Launching sites deadline looms

Cape Town - The public was on Friday invited to comment on the draft policy on regulations on boat launching sites, the Environmental Affairs and Tourism Department said.
In a statement spokesperson Carol Moses said from July 21 all boat launch sites into the ocean, including slipways on rivers that experience tidal fluctuations, must be licenced.
"Those boat launching sites that are not licenced in terms of regulation 7 of the Regulations will be closed to vehicles," she said.
She said those who wanted to licence a boat launching site would have to apply to do so through the provincial environmental affairs department.
The fee for a three-year licence would be R5 000.
"This fee is, however, subject to a public comment period which will take place during the first two weeks of July 2003," she said.
Members of the public can access the policy on www.environment.gov.za
Comments must be submitted no later than 4pm on July 18.
