Lawyers don't pitch for Jub Jub case

2012-02-29 17:15

Johannesburg - The murder trial of Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala was postponed by the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Proceedings will resume on Thursday.

The lawyers of both accused failed to arrive in court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa told the court that Maarohanye's lawyer Ike Motloung had another case at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

It had been expected to finish by 11:00, but he had not arrived by noon and his cellphone was switched off.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

They were allegedly racing their Mini Coopers along Mdlalose Drive in Protea North on March 8 2010, when one of the cars ploughed into a group of school pupils.

Four schoolboys were killed and two others were severely injured.

Guess that they either weren't paid...or they figured out that there really is nothing to defend!

I rate he figured out there is nothing to defend and it will look bad on his win vs loss state.... Or i hope he has no money to pay n he gets legal aid lawyers who will mess his case so he gets stuffed to jail for a long time!

Get out of jail free, get a heart attack when case is over in 10 years time. See how quickly the case of that person in the Cape went. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?

next week is the 2nd year anniversary of this incident, i dont care what ties they have or how famous theyr gospelish song was, get those idiots into jail what else do you want. They were caught on camera racing, eye witness spotted them, they were under the influence of God knows how many substances and THEY KILLED 4 PEOPLE AND SEVERLY INJURED OTHERS. How much evidence do you need to lock Jub Hamilton and his buddy up? Smh

      Henri James Christie - 2012-03-01 07:21

Agreed 100%. Put their lawyers in jail with them for even taking on a case like this. Why defend someone when all the evidence of their guilt is there???

News24 Home page teaser: "The murder trial of Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala has been by the Protea Magistrate's Court after laawyers for the two failed to arrive." Stupid laawyers. Maybe they been by some other court by mistake. Wakey wakey, sub-editors!

  • Chaapo - 2012-02-29 18:25

If the lawyers want to drag out the process with their shenanigans, the solution is: just withdraw bail, put them back in the slammer and you can bet the lawyers will pitch up pronto.
