Johannesburg - Bond University students in Sandton were shocked to read in
the press on Tuesday that a classmate of Leigh Matthews has been arrested for
her murder.
"The people in her class were terribly upset when they heard that a Bond
student was arrested," said Marc Hurwitz, one of Matthews' classmates.
He said the suspect was only in their class for one subject and he and
Matthews' s friends "do not know him very well".
"The students are upset, but all of them are glad that someone has been
apprehended," Hurwitz said.
Security measures at the campus were intensified on Tuesday to prevent the
media from entering the premises and talking to the students.
Two other students said they were shocked by the news. "We thought this was
a safe campus. You expect the danger to come from outside. But now?"
Another added: "My parents are paying a packet to enable me to study here."
