Johannesburg - Hearing Donovan Moodley's murder confession on the first day of his trial at the Johannesburg High Court proved too much for the victim's sister, Karen Matthews.

On Tuesday, Karen was not at the court. Her father Rob Matthews said: "My daughter took a lot of strain".

Moodley on Monday confessed to kidnapping and murdering 21-year-old Leigh Matthews before dumping her body in a field in Walkerville.

Moodley was brought to court on Tuesday, again in a high speed three-car convoy with blaring sirens.

Moodley's father Stephen is expected to testify on Tuesday in mitigation of sentence.

The proceedings were scheduled to start at 10:00.
