Lenasia imam brutally killed - report

2012-09-24 20:33

Johannesburg - A Lenasia community leader was brutally murdered by four robbers who broke into his house, according to a report on Monday.

The Star newspaper reported that Molana Iqbal Hassan, the imam (priest) of the Masjid Siddique, a mosque in Lenasia Extension 10, died of multiple stab wounds on Sunday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said four robbers, who were still at large, placed Hassan, his wife and their children in separate rooms.

"They demanded money and other things. They stabbed the man in the head and took some of the electrical appliances from the house," Makubela was quoted as saying.

The other members of the family were not injured.

A case of house robbery and murder was being investigated.

A friend of the Hassan family, who did not want to be identified, said the stolen items were later recovered, as the robbers dropped them while fleeing. It was believed the robbers saw a police car heading to the scene.

It's time the communities take back their neighborhoods and drive the thugs out!

its a disgrace the violence that goes on in this country when an innocent man dies - its time this government got its act together

      sean.bagley.50 - 2012-09-24 21:07

For ****sakes when will you people realize this current Government in South Africa don't give a **** about these murders? They pat themselves on the back over 15609 murders in a year and say they're making improvements and progress on the safety and security of yours and my live. How the hell can people still afford to live out there in such a barbaric and heartless country? We need to take our country back ourselves from the evil that is the murderous thugs that think our lives are worth nothing.

Julie Khan - News24 reader told us about this tragedy yesterday. Again, we are sorry for your community's loss Julie. And we are crying for our beloved country!

  • duncan.gill1 - 2012-09-24 20:58

We are surrounded by thieves killers and rapists..just look at every squatter camp surrounding every city in this country..then thank the ANC for allowing this situation!

  • Iqhawe_eliqotho - 2012-09-24 20:59

Disgustingly senseless, mueder in cold blood. Please government, stiffer penalties for criminals and lessen chances of release.

  • marcdefl - 2012-09-24 21:02

The ANC does nothing about everything except appoint commisions of enquiry. The only contribution the DA can offer is to decrease the speed limit. Time for ordinary South Africans to take to the streets and remove all illegal firearms and anyoneone carrying a weapon.

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-09-24 21:07

Maybe we should do the same to the so called leaders of this rotten corrupt country,my condolences to the family.

  • Zahir - 2012-09-24 21:22

to hunt them down and kill these things this is the only real justice for such brutal coward acts

  • josie.russell.10 - 2012-09-24 21:25

No one is safe in this country - we should be thankful they left the wife and children unhurt (as in bodily harm). CAPITAL PUNISHMENT is going to be the only deterrant.

  • Omnivore - 2012-09-24 21:34

Why kill? What sort of soulless thing stabs an unarmed man in the head? Who are these pathetic losers?

Absolute disgrace. A man who dedicated his life to his beliefs. And for what? A couple of electrical appliances? But this forces me to ask Prince Hakeem Libala to repeat his comment,( Oh, just another white ou) of the other day.

  • sally.lewitt - 2012-09-24 22:47

So, so SAD. Condolences to the traumatised family and friends. May you find peace one day..

From Allah we come and to him do we return. Oh Allah! Give him a wife better than his wife and a house better than his house. And remove his sins like how a white garments dirt is removed. Oh Allah! Make his family patient. Ameen.

      muhammad.mokoena - 2012-09-24 23:51

Oh Allah! Keep him steadfast in the grave when he will be question and raise on the day of judgement amongst the righteous. Ameen.

      jomardl - 2012-09-25 09:35

Wow, that's really what they pray? "Give him a wife better than his wife"? I'm guessing those words are of particularly cold comfort to his grieving widow.

  • tommo.too - 2012-09-25 01:01

It is to Allah the perpetrators must finally answer.

  • zaks2217 - 2012-09-25 07:16

Inna lillahi. Doesn't sound like a robbery. They would be very dumb robbers by killing someone and getting nothing out of it. Maybe its a hit which was made to look like a house robbery gone bad. Or maybe they just dumb robbers. I hope its the latter otherwise we have bigger problems. Doesn't change the fact that Lenasia has lost a valuable leader in the community.

      jomardl - 2012-09-25 09:37

What? They do that every day. They kill for fun or out unbelievable cowardice. Even though he is outnumbered, unarmed and tied up, these useless pieces of garbage are still afraid of him.

      riad.mahomed - 2012-09-25 10:42

“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un” ('Surely we belong to God and to Him shall we return'). This was the very thought that crossed my mind when I read this article. I guess the community that he lived in and the congregation that he preached to at Masjid Siddique in Lenasia Extension 10 would be the ones that could verify this notion since it could have been something that he has been vocal about that they knew of. May Allah (SWT) grant him Jannat Ul Firdous (The highest place in Heaven), May Allah grant his family, friends and community patience, strength, and steadfastness in these trying times, and the coolness of absolute certitude and the contentment of accepting Allah’s Decree. Inshallah Ameen.

As ThembaTwala mentioned in a comment on another thread yesterday, our hands are legally tied regarding the reintroduction of the Death Penalty for these psychopaths. However, the people have tremendous power IF THE NEED IS GREAT ENOUGH, and this is what I said on the same thread (we have to consider it): "I made a comment on News24 yesterday about demanding the reintroduction of the Death Penalty - retrospectively (i.e. so that we can hang all those Donavan Moodley's, Kestrel killers, etc. as well), and shutting the country down until it was (closing down airports, big industry, harbours, etc.), but the comment was very quickly removed. This doesn't even have to be done with any public disturbance or violence, etc. All that has to be done is for a massive petition representing as many of the citizens as possible to go to the govt stating the demand, and then for us all to stay at home until such time as it is reintroduced and we see thugs like those who pushed the 12yr old boy into boiling water hanging by their scrawny necks in front of the Union Buildings - that way, we'll be able to guard our homes :) BUT the people of South Africa would really have to satnd together on this one, and that all depends on whether we're hurting enough yet ... i.e. how many more murders can we tolerate before breaking point?"

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-09-25 07:51

Should the victim have shot and killed the robbers WHO would be in the sh*t !? F*ck this ANC government..should anybody break in Messrs Browning Smith and Wesson will take appropriate action !!

  • carol.harvey.9406 - 2012-09-25 10:01

"...Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property...Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them." — Thomas Paine, Thoughts On Defensive War, 1775 The quote is 237 years old and we see the 'horrid mischief' the speaker referred to, happening daily in SA. The deterrent value of any law-abiding citizen within any society being able to have a firearm for defence is inestimable and has been well proven over centuries. It is not even necessary that ALL citizens actually BE armed - only that the evil ones in our midst may perceive it to be likely that their target is armed and able to resist with lethal power. When government makes law, as has the ANC, which effectively makes it impossible to be legally-armed then criminals know the effect this has, which is to make their workplace a much safer environment in which to carry out their evil deeds.

Get rid of the anc and you get rid of the crime

  • imraan.khan.71066 - 2012-09-25 12:40

What a sad loss - as long as the police go to bed at night , the thugs will play in the darkness . Can the government not see this fact ??

  • bradley.kecskes - 2012-09-25 12:47

  • alan.barclay.75 - 2012-11-06 15:40

Maybe...just maybe if something as horrid as this happened to one of their own family members, would Government act with urgency and conviction. We need stronger deterrants to criminal acts such as this.Bring back the death penalty!
